Welcome to Finlaystone Country Estate, an established visitor attraction managed by the family of the Chief of the Clan MacMillan.
The estate, with its spectacular views across the Firth of Clyde, is located just ten minutes west of Glasgow Airport and is open all year round.
Finlaystone offers imaginative woodland play areas, colourful gardens, tumbling waterfalls, many activities for all ages and a tea room. You can also hire rooms for corporate events, weddings, parties, conferences, craft stalls or other needs.
We are a popular destination for schools and nurseries and if you are keen to volunteer to assist in the garden or woodlands we would be pleased to meet you. Come and see what fun you can have at Finlaystone.
Stroll through the gardens… pausing to appreciate the special plants and Finlaystone's renowned beauty. Don't miss the 'smelly' garden, the intricate Celtic paving or the 70 metre serpentine herbaceous border. Enjoy the sweeping lawns and sculptured hedges, and relax at the Tea Room in the walled garden.
The main design was laid out in 1900 but many changes have since taken place. The gardens are maintained by just one full time gardener with lots of additional help from family and dedicated volunteers.
There are approximately 140 acres of woodland at Finlaystone, including trees which are estimated to be over 400 years old.
This woodland plays host to a wide range of wildlife including roe deer, fox, squirrel, stoat and a large colony of bats.
The woodland floor has fantastic display of fungi and flora including species such as primrose, wood sorrel, wood anemone, wild garlic and dog's mercury, all of which are indicative of ancient or long established semi-natural woodland. Follow the changing seasons and seek out snowtrails and snowdrops in winter, bluebells in spring, wildflowers and pond life during summer, and a variety of colourful berries during autumn.
The mud flats are designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) on the basis of their national importance for wintering birds such as redshank, greenshank, oystercatcher, goldeneye and eider.
Facilities for hire: Finlaystone has a wide range of properties for hire to suit most needs and budgets. We can host the smartest of wedding or corporate event in the Mansion House but also provide a deliberately wide range of different standards of venue from modern office environment to rustic buildings for other needs.
